Remembrance

I met Wes in Tehran, Iran in 1962,  where we were Marine Guards at the U.S. Embassy.  Wes was always upbeat, full of life and a pleasure to be around.  He was a Gung Ho Marine and took great pride in preserving the tradition.

I lost track of him for awhile following discharge but later was able to reconnect and am very grateful that I did.  Carol and Wes made several visits to Chicago to complete a reunion of ex-Marine Embassy Guards, Tehran, Iran.  The group included Dennis Neath, Chicago (deceased), Tom Schmoeger, Denver, CO and myself.  We talked, reminisced, laughed a lot and had a great time.

Later, I spoke regularly with Wes about past and future surgeries, the Marine Corps, Notre Dame versus Michigan football and how great life is.  He was a great friend and will be missed.
