Michael J.  Wood
Michael “Mike” J. Wood, 66, of Coldwater, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Lockwood Community Church with Pastor Shayne Looper officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Lockwood Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Mike was born February 15, 1949 to Arthur J. Wood and Edna Mae (Snyder) Elliott in Coldwater. After graduating from Tekonsha High School, Mike entered the United States Air Force on October 23, 1967 and was honorably discharged on September 7, 1971 attaining the rank of AIC. While serving he received the NDSM, VSM w/ 1 BSS and the RVCM. Mike then began a long career with GTE as a switchman, retiring in 1998 after 27 years of employment.
Mike was a member of Lockwood Community Church. He volunteered as a Cub Scout Leader and also at 4-H with their shooting sports. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, reading history, crossword puzzles, being with people making them laugh, but he especially loved being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years Karen; his children Justin (Heather) Wood of Coldwater, Cindy (Mike) Schall of Coldwater; his grandchildren, Emily Wood, Lexi Wood, Braylon Wood, Nora Schall and Ethan Schall; his brother Don (Teddy) Sinclair of Quincy; his Aunt Margaret King of Tekonsha; his nephew Kirk (Lisa) Sinclair of Ceresco; and his great niece Samantha Sinclair of Alma. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his infant brother and his uncles Robert King and Melvin Snyder.
Memorials may be directed to Lockwood Community Church, Vietnam Veteran’s Association Chapter 730 Coldwater or the 4-H Foundation of Branch County.
