Obituary

Michael Patrick Murphy, 69, of Bronson, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Cameron Memorial Hospital in Angola, IN. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 22, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson with Pastor Paul Metzger officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation Sunday, June 21, 2020 from 2:00-4:00 PM at the funeral home. Mick was born August 26, 1950 in Coldwater to Gerald J. and Kay E. (Nealy) Murphy and on May 24, 1980 he married Judy Dearman in Bronson and she survives. He had received his Associate’s degree from Glenn Oaks Community College from which he pursued work in a variety of fields; he had been employed at the RV factory in Middlebury, GF Business, Ross Labs in Sturgis as a lab technician, Coldwater Hospital as a respiratory technician, and finally had finished his career with the Bronson Journal. Mick always found time to enjoy the outdoors and wildlife; he was a lifelong fisherman that was a part of several fishing clubs and he also loved to read. Mick was witty and humorous, qualities that were only complemented by his ability to tell stories, he was a “teller of tales;” but he was also a dedicated and charismatic man, not only to his work and passions but most of all to his family. He will be dearly missed for the husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend to many that he was. In addition to his wife Judy, Mick is survived by his two sons Ryan (Melissa) Murphy of Battle Creek, Darren (Kate) Murphy of Sturgis; one brother Tim (Deb) Murphy of Bronson; nine grandchildren Makenzie, Aidan, Aubrey, Isaac, Olivia, Raegan, Claire, Grayson, Lincoln; and his loving nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Kathy. Memorials are suggested to the Branch County Shelter House. www.dutcherfh.com

I just now learned about Mick passing. I am his son as well but wasn’t mentioned. My mother gave birth to me 2/27/74. I called him a couple of years ago and had a long conversation with him. I should have contacted him more often and made a better effort to develop a relationship with him. Now I will have to live with that. What a shame that I never knew my father. He seemed like a decent person from my conversations on the phone. My mother was Kathleen Dixon from Bronson MI. Her mother was Janet Dixon and her father was Calvin Dixon. My condolences go out to his wife and kids.

I will always remember Micky's wonderful sense of humor, his endless desire for knowledge and his overwhelming generosity. Mickey was the kid that you wanted to hang out with, all day long! Mickey was the fun kid to be with. There was never a dull moment when you were with him. Life with Mick was a true adventure. Mick was the original Indiana Jones. I'm going to miss him. God bless you Mickey on your new journey. Job well done. I love you, Laura Brandt Friedman

Tim/Deb and families: Bless all of u at this time of loss. There's nothing easy about it. As u set upon ur decks on these beautiful summer nights, remember as u look up at the stars. They are really holes in heaven from where our loved ones gaze down and smile upon us. May u find some comfort in that old Indian lore. Karen (Zabonick) Hyska
