Obituary for Margaret M. Lopez

Margaret M. Lopez, 82, of Coldwater passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.





A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 from 3-6 pm at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. A private interment will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater. No other services will be held.





Margaret was born on March 12, 1928 to Basil and Audrey (Trumbull) Earley in Coldwater, Michigan. She was a graduate of Coldwater High School and lived in Coldwater her entire life. She had worked at Nick's and the Alamo Restaurant in Coldwater in her earlier years. She then served as an administrative assistant at the Coldwater City Hall from 1968 to 1993.





Margaret was very active in her retirement, volunteering at the H.C. Burnside Senior Center, the Presbyterian Free Health Clinic and the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. She served as the AARP tax advisor at the senior center, was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for many years and was named "Senior Citizen of the Year" in 2002 for her many service activities. She was an avid walker, enjoyed playing cards, games and making candy for the holidays. She loved Frank Sinatra, anything chocolate and most especially, her family.





She is survived by her son Robert (Becky) Lopez and daughter Ann (Robert) Schiff, all of Kalamazoo, brother Basil (Ruth) Earley, Jr. of FL, sister Freda Lewis of Coldwater, grandsons, Sam and Max Lopez and many cousins, nieces and nephews.





Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Elizabeth Belote.





In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the H.C. Burnside Senior Center or the Presbyterian Free Health Clinic.
