Obituary for Frederick D. Hofmann

Frederick D. Hofmann, 96, of Coldwater, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012 at The Laurels of Coldwater.


A private family viewing will be held at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. A graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater at a later date.


Frederick was born August 21, 1915 in Detroit, MI to Henry and Augusta (Slutke) Hofmann. He married Dorothy Hinton, together they had two daughters.


He worked as a radio repairman, and was a truck driver most of his life, hauling cars for Commercial Carriers, retiring as a cement truck driver for Cooper Supply in Detroit. He was a member of the Church of The Holy Spirit, belonged to Youth Hostels of America, and was a member of the Teamsters Union. Frederick and Delores lived and spent many years restoring the Chandler historic home on West Pearl Street. Fritz loved snow skiing, roller skating, ice skating and playing golf. He was an avid sports fan and never missed a Detroit Tigers baseball game, playing baseball himself in his youth.


Mr. Hofmann is survived by his daughters Carol Wittbrodt and Barbara Hofmann both of Coldwater, his grandchildren Pam (Armond) Morris of Coldwater , Pattie (Dan) Fraley of Quincy, Debbie (Michael) Olszewsia of Coldwater, Paul (Tammy) Wittbrodt of Coldwater, Clifford (Lori) Wittbrodt of Hudsonville, his former wife Dolores (Hofmann) Whitman of Byron, OH, 12 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and his first wife Dorothy (Hinton) Hofmann Milliman in 2008.
