Obituary for David A. Post

David A. Post, 74, of Bronson, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.


A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 30, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Bronson with Pastors Cynthia Veilleux and Terry Siler officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Bronson American Legion. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the church. Interment of ashes will be held on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Bronson Cemetery. Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson.


Dave was born on December 18, 1937 to Ronald M. and Winifred (White) Post in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was a 1955 graduate of Allegan High School. He served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1956-1960.


Dave came to Bronson in 1965 where he was the first manager of the Harding’s Market. He had worked as a salesman for various bottling companies over the years, but he really enjoyed working for the Snapple Company.


He married Sharron L. Dow on January 29, 1971 at the Methodist Church in Sturgis. Through the years, Dave became very involved in his church and the Bronson community. He served on the Bronson City Council, Planning Commission Chairman, City Superintendent, Vice Mayor and Mayor. He also served as the Trustees Chairman at the United Methodist Church where he was a member for many years.


When he was younger he was active in the Jaycees and had co-organized a Boy Scout Troop in Comstock. In his later years, he joined the Bronson Rotary Club, which was his life for the past 6 years. He served as Club President in 2009-10 and recently served as Assistant Governor for Rotary District 6360. He was very dedicated to the club and its goals.


Mr. Post is survived by his wife, Sharron, his son Ronald (Sheryl) Post of Alpharetta, GA, his daughter Vicki (Reid) Green of Coldwater, his step-children Chuck (Monica) Buckley of Burr Oak and Debbie Meredith of Battle Creek, his sister-in-law Shirley Bracelin of Allegan, his grandchildren Stacy McMurtrie, Carson Post, Meredith Post, Randy Green, Jim Green, Brandon Buckley, Tyler Buckley, his great grandchildren Paige Stansberry, Lindsey McMurtrie and Lacey McMurtrie.


Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Debbie Post in 2005, his step-daughter Dawn Marie Buckley in 1992 and his step-brother Bill Bracelin.
