Obituary for Carl L. Sharp

Carl L. Sharp
Carl Louis Sharp 1949-2015

Carl Louis Sharp,66,of Bronson passed away Wednesday, September 23 at Sturgis Hospital after as long battle against cancer. He was born on August 6, 1949 in Martin on the way to the hospital, thus the family nickname Shiv after the Chevy he was born in.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lois (Roush) Sharp, his three brothers Joseph, James and Brian and his best friend Gerald Harvath. He is survived by wife Gloria Lawson-Sharp, son Zachary (Sara) Sharp, daughter Elizabeth Sharp, 3 wonderful grandsons, and nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of WMU and loved working with people. He worked for the Department of Social Services in St. Joseph and Branch counties for most of his career, retiring at age 50 due to ill health. He owned and operated Lois’s Book Depot in Bronson for 20 years then moved into selling antiques and books at the antique malls in Allen, Michigan. He combined travel with scouring the countryside for diverse items to bring back to sell and enjoyed seeing which unique object would be snatched up quickest. He loved water and enjoyed living in homes where friends and family could come to swim and socialize.

Travel was his passion and he went on many trips with his wife Gloria and son Zachary and later with grandson Dokoda Holt-Sharp and dear friend Horst Heuer. He has left strict instructions that grandsons Paul Louis and Cole William be taken on trips by their grandma. He treasured his son Zach, daughter-in-law Sara (Busby) Sharp and his 3 grandsons: Dokoda, Paul and Cole, his dear Canadian friends: Horst, John, Liz, Brian and Kathleen and his close group of friends and family. He would like to thank all his doctors and nurses who gave of their knowledge and warmth and who kept him so active the last 10 years. He was a joy to be around and also a royal pain!

He is being cremated and plans for a memorial will be announced later.
He is reunited with his family and friends who has gone before him. In lieu of flowers--take your family to the movies or a play! www.dutcherfh.com
