Willi Schwethelm, Soltau

Dear Margret, my sincere condolences and my prayers to Henry’s passing. At the end of July 2011 I came to Coldwater as Chairman of the Soltau City Council to celebrate the 40th anniversary of our city-partnership. It was my first visit in the partner city and also the first one to the United States. At the home of Margaret and Henry I was welcomed so nicely as if I was a son. In nearly every evening I sat with Henry in front of the TV to see the baseball-playing Detroit Tigers. Henry explained it to me so perfectly that I was able testing my friends about the rules of baseball. The Wendels showed me the beauties and many interesting points of Michigan. The attached image has been made during this journey showing Oswald's bears ranch. Henry explained to me how the Indians managed it to have a Casino and he showed me his shop. In this shop he worked with machines from the 1950s that looked as good as new. Because he was no longer able to walk sufficiently, he drove on his lawn mower in the garden. To celebrate of the 40th anniversary of the partnership, he said a prayer and gave an impressive speech. I could tell many more lovely stories about Henry. I hope we will see us again in heaven and continue our discussions. Rest in peace dear friend Henry
