Obituary for Richard "Dick" Johnson

Richard “Dick” D. Johnson, 76, of Coldwater, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at his home in Coldwater.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Dave Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM on Saturday.
Dick was born October 26, 1935 in Jackson, Michigan to Glenn and Ethel (Millard) Johnson. He married Mary Louise Shaffer on July 14, 1956 in Angola, Indiana.
Mr. Johnson began driving truck in 1956. He worked for Gambles and a variety of other local trucking companies for many years, retiring in 1990. Dick was a longtime member of the Branch County Sheriff’s Posse and an avid racing fan, especially NASCAR. He loved to race his own stock car at Butler Motor Speedway for 11 years. Dick enjoyed the outdoors and loved to spend time on the farm. He was a very generous man who loved to do things for others. Dick adored his grandchildren and especially enjoyed supporting them in their many activities and attending their sporting events.
Dick is survived by his wife Mary, his daughter Pamela (Garry) Porter of Coldwater, his son Jeffery (Michelle) Johnson of Warren, Ohio, his grandchildren Todd (Samantha) Porter, Amy (Ryan)VanAiken all of Coldwater, Jason (Amanda) Disko of Girard, Ohio, Mark Disko of Warren, Ohio, his great grandchildren Jason Disko, Jr., Evan and Mya Porter, Rylie and Laynie VanAiken. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Brian Porter in 2000.
