Leonard J. “Stub” McDonald, 94, of Bronson, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Community Health Center of Branch County.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Coldwater with the Very Reverend Mark Vyverman officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater. A visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM.
Stub was born September 29, 1921 to Homer and Cora (Glass) McDonald in Auburn, Indiana. He enlisted in the United States Army on November 7, 1942 and was discharged on October 23, 1945 having attained the rank of Staff Sargent. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.
He married Opal Forrester on August 11, 1945 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Coldwater. Stub worked at Bronson Reel for 23 years and at Arnold Auto Parts in the machine shop for many years and he retired from Precision Products in Bronson as a Foreman in 1996.
Stub was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and Bronson American Legion Post #259. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, watching old TV shows, fixing anything mechanical as he operated the East Gilead Garage for many years.
He is survived by his children, Jerry McDonald of Goldfield, Nevada, Larry (Peggy Sanders) McDonald of Bronson and Neal ( Fiance Melissa McNees) McDonald of Bronson; his 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; his sister, Marjorie Lutz of Bronson and his brother, Robert (Betty) McDonald of Bronson. Stub was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Opal on March 18, 1998, his sons LeRoy and Rodney, his brothers John and Anthony and his sister Leom Aldrich.
