Obituary for John D. Bloom

John D.  Bloom
John DeLos Bloom, 82 of Coldwater passed away on Thursday, April 07, 2016 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

A funeral service will take place at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Coldwater with Pastor David Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery where Coldwater American Legion Post #52 will present Military Honors. Visitation will be Friday, April 8, 2016 from 5 – 8:00 PM, with a Masonic Service taking place at 7:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.

John was born July 20, 1933 to Vivian (French) York in Jackson. After graduation from high school, John proudly served in the U.S. Army. After returning from the service, John continued his lifelong passion of farming. On June 16, 1955 he married Lenora Bloom. She preceded him in death on May 8, 1999. On December 17, 1988 he married Marcia Farwell in Coldwater.

John was very active with Tyre Lodge 18 - Coldwater Masonic Temple, and the Branch County Shrine Club. He was a man of faith and attended First Baptist Church. John also participated with the Merry Mixer’s Square Dancers. Other than working on the farm, he enjoyed traveling, especially the trips to Mexico, Alaska, and square dance conventions. John enjoyed his morning coffee group at the Garden’s Restaurant. Mostly he relished spending time with his family, paying special attention to his grandchildren. John will be remembered as a well-liked, strong, and independent man.

Mr. Bloom is survived by his wife of 27 years, Marcia Bloom of Coldwater; his children Catherine Marvin and Shari Deevers both of Tekonsha, Sandra (Rodney) Norris of Quincy, David (Tena) Bloom of Bronson, Gerald (Peggy) Bloom of Quincy, and Scott Bloom of Coldwater; his step-children Deborah Bracy of Quincy, Craig (Kara) Bercaw of Burlington, and Tina Swims of Union City; his siblings Rodney (Joan) York of Constantine, Karen (Ed) Smallcombe and Susan “Susie” (Larry) Keene, and Debbie York all of Three Rivers; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; his sister-in-law Kay Bloom of Dowagiac; his good friend Mike Bradford. He was preceded in death by his mother; his first wife; his brothers Jerry Bloom and Steve York.
