Obituary for Claudine E. Cox

Claudine E. Cox
Claudine E. Cox, 95, of Coldwater passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at her home while surrounded by family.

A funeral service will take place at 4:00 PM on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Don Matteson of Batavia Community Church officiating. Cremation will follow, and a private interment will take place at Leonardson Memorial Cemetery in Pittsford at a later date. Visitation will be prior to the funeral Sunday starting at 1:00 PM.

Claudine was born July 28, 1919 to Albert and Almeda (Hartzog) Williams in Onsted. About 1949, while raising her family in Frontier, she went to work as an egg candler at Kroger Egg Exchange in Hudson, then later settled in the Coldwater area when the company moved there. Claudine was a member of the Teamsters Union and retired in 1981 when the egg exchange moved out of Coldwater. She then started her own business, “Grannies Red Worms”, raising and selling red worms to local fishermen. Affectionately known as “Sarge”, she was a resourceful, independent, and hardworking woman.

Claudine was very active. She enjoyed league bowling in her younger years, and camping, sledding and other family activities into her 80’s. She liked being outdoors where she kept both flower and vegetable gardens, and spending time with her grandchildren and their families. Claudine will be remembered as a loving, inspiring, determined, and persistent woman. She will be dearly missed by many.

Claudine Cox is survived by her children Donna (Kenneth “Skip”) Boyd of Reading, Doris Lambright of Jonesville, Judy (Harold) Lyles of Plainwell, and John (Marilyn) Burger of Bronson; 24 grandchildren, 73 great grandchildren, 92 great, great grandchildren, and 7 great, great, great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; her special friends Chuck (Cathy) Ochsenrider and Jan Jones; her treasured cat “Tyra”. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Leon Burger, Vern Beckman, and William Cox; her brothers Athel, Birdell “Bill”, and Russell Williams; her sisters Doris Griffith, Alice Sutherland, and Dora “Pauline” Smith; her half-brother Earl Williams; her grandchildren J.R. Ritter, Ronda Russell-Cutler, and Richard Russell her sons-in-laws Fred Lambright and Dean Crapo.
