Mary Jane Thomas, 80, of Bronson passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the Community Health Center of Branch County.
In following Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will take place at 4:00 PM on Friday, July 10, 2015 at St. Mary’s Cemetery with Reverend Father Joe Kiene, OFMConv, of St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church Angola officiating. The family was cared for by Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home.
Mary was born January 31, 1935 to Ford and Dorthea (Penick) Nichols in Steuben County. She married Alfred H. Thomas at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Angola. She occasionally attended St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church while residing with her husband and kids in Coldwater.
Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was very family oriented and enjoyed spending time around her home. She was a passionate woman whom spoke her mind and came to the defense of family members when she felt they were being wronged. She was also compassionate and cared for her parents, husband and a friend that had been stricken with ALS. This she did over the course of a lifetime. She was a 1953 graduate of Orland High School in Indiana and a home maker with a talent to refinish small furniture.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by her sons Alfred Joseph Thomas of Orland, Gregory Lee (Marianne) Thomas of Orland, and Tim Alan Thomas of Orland; her sisters Gladys Marie Nichols of Angola and Betty Jeane Berry of Fort Wayne; her grandchildren Gregory and Danny Thomas, Brandi (Tim) Lowery. her great grandchildren Colyn and Connor Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alfred Thomas; and her brothers Gerald Nichols, Wayne Nichols, and Wendell Dean Nichols.
