Obituary for Rick A. Poynter

Rickey “Rick” Allen Poynter, 63 of Coldwater passed away on Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Community Health Center of Branch County.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Shayne Looper of Lockwood Community Church officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, December 18, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home.
Rick was born August 22, 1951 to Lee and Elizabeth “Betty” (Hatfield) Poynter in Moline, Illinois. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam where he was a member of the 82nd Airborne. On January 14, 1984 he married JoAnn Cooper in Coldwater. He worked at Acorn in Quincy for 28 years, until the closing of the company. Rick then worked at Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater before retiring.
Rick was a diehard NY Yankee fan. He played 1st base in softball and was the team’s designated home run hitter for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors spending time hunting and fishing. Rick also liked to watch western movies. Mostly he relished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Poynter is survived by his wife of 30 years, JoAnn Poynter of Coldwater; his daughters Stacee (Joel) Hinkel of Summerville, SC and Robin O’ Brien of Coldwater; his son Michael (Jeannie) Fadden of Plymouth, MI; his siblings Lee Junior Poynter of Coldwater, Barry (Debbie) Poynter of Litchfield, and Judy Hicks of Angola; his grandchildren Zakary and Jayme Fadden, Ashlee (Anthony) Douglas, and Fletcher Green; his great granddaughter Sophi Douglas; his uncle Ted (Shirley) Poynter of Hillsdale; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends Chrissy Whitaker, Elnore Paris, Bev Gearhart, and Loha Murhpy; many good neighborhood & work friends; and his dog Calli Jo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Stoney Poynter; his dog Ricki Jo.
