The service will be held on Monday, March 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson with Pastor Bill Abernathy and Pastor Steve Nichols of the Berean Baptist Church Officiating. Interment will follow at Fry Cemetery in Noble Township.
Tsuyako Dauber was born September 1, 1924 in Taikoku, Formosa (currently known as Taiwan). With the WW II occupation by the Chinese on the island of Taiwan, the Japanese occupants were transported to the mainland. Tsuyako and her mother Mistue Obata and Father Tajiro Harada settled in Tokyo as their permanent residence.
Tsuyako married Weldon E. Dauber on March 31, 1953 in Tokyo, Japan, as he was stationed as a Civil Service worker in Tachikawa. In 1956 Tsuyako and her family came to the United States on a Navy transport carrier and settled in Bronson, Michigan at the residence of her mother and father-in-law. Tsuyako & Weldon moved to Burr Oak and purchased the Artic Restaurant, which they operated from 1956 to 1962. They then relocated to the Union City area after purchasing a poultry & livestock farm. Tsuyako began working for a local restaurant known as the City Restaurant and a year later, in 1965, she purchased the establishment and managed it until her retirement in August of 1996.
Tsuyako is survived by her daughter Joan (Joni) (Dauber) Frick & Bob Frick of Kalamazoo, her grandson Jason Frick of Arizona, her sister Toshiko Sugawara of Tokyo, Japan, several nieces, nephews, and numerous friends she has made throughout her business career.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Weldon, her parents, her brother Leechi, and two sisters Sia and Kazuko.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Oakland Centre Adult Care in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
