Obituary for William "Scott" Leamy

William Scott Leamy, 69, died at home Saturday, February 24, 2024, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer.

A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, March 9 from 12:00 to 1:30 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.

Scott was born in Chicago, Illinois, January 8, 1955, to Richard and Anne (Shine) Leamy. He attended St. John Fisher and Brother Rice, where he earned a coveted spot of the varsity football team as a sophomore. After his family moved to Battle Creek, he continued to play football and hockey before graduating from Lakeview High School and then Kellogg Community College with a degree in accounting.

Scott worked as an enrolled agent for H & R Block until his retirement, after which he had even more time to fish all the lakes, streams, and piers in Michigan. Halibut fishing near Homer, Alaska, and fly-in camps in Canada with his dad, brothers, and nephews were among his favorite trips.

When he wasn’t with family or spoiling his wife, he was reading: history, autobiographies, classic and contemporary fiction, and various little-known works he hunted down in the stacks of the library. His favorite musicians were equally eclectic, from the Rolling Stones to his mom’s favorite pieces by Chopin.

His many nieces and nephews will miss his brief, humorous text messages, or notes scribbled on scraps of paper. Everyone was happy to see Scott because he was always happy to see them.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Martha Biddlecome; his sister, Diane Leamy; his brothers Rick (Lisa) Leamy and Mike (Sue) Leamy; his sister Jeanette (Bruce) Hamma; his sister-in-law, Barbara Mitchell, and his brothers-in-law Jim (Liz) Biddlecome and John (Dina) Biddlecome.

Memorial donations may be made to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources or the Branch District Library. www.dutcherfh.com
