Obituary for William J. "Bill" Butdorf

William “Bill” J. Butdorf, 76 of Coldwater passed away peacefully Monday, July 05, 2021 at Glen Arbor Hospice in Battle Creek.

In following Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private burial will take place at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Memorial Garden. The family will have a celebration of Bill’s life on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Occasions Hall located at 430 W. Chicago Street Coldwater from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Bill’s family requests that you come dressed casually, including your favorite OSU or UM gear. The family was cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.

William was born March 11, 1945 to Homer and Mary (Rumbaugh) Butdorf in Lodi, OH. He graduated from Northwestern High School in Salem, OH and then continued his education at Kent State University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Bill was a hardworking man, spending many years at Quality Springs Togo as the Purchasing Manager. On August 10, 1991 he married Irene (Bodley) Grimes in Hillsdale.

Bill was a man of faith and long-time member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Coldwater, where he also served on the Vestry. He was an active member of the Branch County Community Theater as both a director and actor. Bill will be remembered for always having a smile on his face, his signature laugh. He will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.

Bill is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Irene Grimes-Butdorf of Coldwater; his sons Edward (Brenna) Butdorf of Wooster, OH, and Douglas (Dr. Jessamyn Neuhaus) Butdorf of Plattsburgh, NY; his step-son Corbin (Evelyn) Grimes of Coldwater; his step-daughter Cathy (Michael) Suever of Ft. Myers, FL; his brother Jeffrey Butdorf of Caliene, CA; his sister Penny (Richard) Fryman of Willard, OH; his grandchildren Jacob Butdorf, Solaman Neuhaus, Emanuel Butdorf, and Jay (Greta) Suever; his nieces Mandy Fryman Thompson, and Mindy Baker. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Joseph Fryman.
