Wayne German, Jr., 90, of Bronson passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 1, 2023, in Marshall, Michigan following a short illness.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at St. Mary of Assumption Church in Bronson with Rev. Fr. Dan Hyman officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 6, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM.
Wayne was born September 20, 1932, to Wayne, Sr. and Grace (Bauman) German in Orland, Indiana. After graduating from Orland High School in 1952, he married Wylla (Wanar) and to this union were born three loving sons, whom they raised in Bronson. In 1989, Wayne remarried and spent 28 wonderful years with his second wife Eunice (Sobeske) until her passing in 2017. Wayne was blessed to gain three loving stepchildren as part of this second marriage.
Wayne served in the U.S. Armed Forces as Staff Sergeant from February 1953 to June 1954. He was proud to be a Korean War Veteran and served his country honorably. Initially he was a combat soldier for the first part of his tour and after the armistice was signed, he spent the remainder of his tour guarding prisoners of war.
Wayne was a hard-working man and spent his employment history with Stone Street Gravel, Sturgis Foundry, and Douglas Manufacturing. After his retirement from Douglas, he enjoyed working part-time at Bronson Precision.
Wayne was very family-oriented and enjoyed attending countless athletic events of his children and grandchildren. He was a constant fixture at the Bronson Jr/Sr. High School gymnasium for many years. He was also a phenomenal machine repairman who could troubleshoot, fix, and repair all kinds of equipment. He loved telling stories of his past and tinkering in his garage fixing and repairing just about anything with excellent analytical problem-solving abilities. He amazed his children when he often diagnosed faulty machinery issues over the phone. Wayne enjoyed visits with his brother, having coffee with his friends at the local McDonald’s restaurant, and always looked forward to his involvement with his euchre group. His true blessings were his family whom he adored. He will be remembered as a kind, dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle whose smile and sense of humor were contagious. He was a member of St. Mary of Assumption Church of Bronson.
Wayne is survived by his children Scott (Jenny) German of Coldwater, Todd (Cathy) German of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Mark (Michelle) German of Temperance, Michigan; his stepchildren Jim (Karen) Sobeske of Coldwater, Joe (Susan) Sobeske of Coldwater, and Barb Sobeske of Bronson; his brother Eugene “Gene” German and sister-in-law Shirley German, both of Orland; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his special companion of four years Barbara Snow with whom he shared many great memories. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard German and sister-in-law Betty (Merriman) German both of Orland and late wife Eunice German.
