Ward C. Merkle, Sr., 94, of Coldwater, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Laurels of Coldwater.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 11:00 AM at The Occasions Event Hall in Coldwater. Interment will be at held at a later date at Wacousta Cemetery. The family is being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Ward was born on December 9, 1924 to Earl and Bertha (MacDonald) Merkle in Nashville, Michigan. He married Evelyn Morris in 1945; she preceded him in death on September 25, 2011.
Ward worked at Shaw Shoe Factory in Coldwater for 26 years and with Pinkertons’s as a security guard. He enjoyed working on and looking at all types of cars, he also enjoyed history, fishing, cats and being with his family.
Ward is survived by his children; Ward C. Merkle, Jr. of Bay City, Wilma (Brent) Goshorn of Coldwater and Wanda (Jerry) Brouse of Coldwater, his 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great -great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn, his daughter Connie Closson, his brother Wayne Merkle and his sister Vonda Paddick
