Virginia Maxine “Corky” Burleson, 99 of Butler Township passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Maple Lawn.
In following her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private burial will take place at Shooks Prairie Cemetery. The family was cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Virginia was born October 19, 1921 to Seibert and Dora (Barnes) Corwin in Kinderhook Township. She married the love of her life, Robert Burleson on May 7, 1939. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2003. Corky was a very determined and hardworking woman. After graduation from high school she started a long working career. She worked at Acorn, 20 years at Maple Lawn as a nurse aide and in the laundry and after retirement from work she volunteered at the Quincy Library for 10 years.
Corky was an avid genealogist, tracing her family roots into the 1600’s. While volunteering at the library, her main focus was helping other to learn and trace their family history. She was a very good cook and also enjoyed needle point. Her true joy in life was spending time with her family, especially once grandchildren and great grandchildren started arriving. Corky will be remembered as a sweet and loving woman with a great sense of humor. She had a great memory which went along with her storytelling abilities.
Mrs. Burleson is survived by her sons Michael (Pearl) Burleson of Schoolcraft, Gene (Teresa) Burleson of Adrian, and Tom Burleson of Quincy; thirteen grandchildren, many great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren; and many other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert Burleson; her daughter Lana Headley; and her grandson Robert D. Burleson.
