Obituary for Vera C. "Charlene" Smith

Vera “Charlene” Smith, 89, of Bronson passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020 while under hospice care.

A funeral service will take place at 3:00 on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Pleasant Hill Missionary Church with Pastor Mark Case of California Community Church officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.

Vera was born December 9, 1930 to George and Hazel (Judy) Black in Wabash, IN. She attended White Pigeon Schools. On December 20, 1947 she married the love of her life, Fred Smith, Jr. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2011 after 63 ½ years of marriage. They lived in Burr Oak and the Bronson area since their marriage.

Vera was a woman of compassion who loved being involved with her family and their activities, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time doing crafts, making porcelain & vinyl dolls, quilting, and crochet work. Vera liked making a trip to the casino when she was able.

Mrs. Smith was blessed with 9 children, of which 7 survive Gerald (Sharon) Smith of Bronson, Darl (Teresa) Smith of Coldwater, Roland Smith of Coldwater, Rodney (Sheryl) Smith, Jody (Robert) Collins, Gregory (Amy) Smith, and Kevin (Lori) Smith all of Bronson; her brothers Frank (Roberta) Black and Russell Black all of White Pigeon; many grand, great, and great, great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Fred Smith, Jr.; her sons Terry (Connie) Smith, Lynn Smith; her grand daughter Chantelle Smith; her great, great grandson Andrick Dickey; and her sister-in-law Vickie Black.
