Obituary for Ross D. Byers

Ross Dean Byers, 83, of Coldwater, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at his home in Coldwater. A funeral service will be held Monday, October 10, 2022 at 11:30 AM at Lockwood Community Church with Pastor Shayne Looper and Pastor Steve Runyon officiating. The family will receive guests for visitation Monday, October 10, 2022 from 9:30 AM until time of service at the church. A burial of ashes will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater at a later date. The family is being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
He was born June 14, 1939 to Hudean and Vera (Shippey) Byers in Coldwater, MI. On October 7, 1961 Ross married Marilyn L. Sanford at Lockwood Community Church and she preceded him in death on October 1, 2021. Ross was a graduate of Bronson High School and continued his education at Michigan State University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree. He led lifelong careers as a brick mason and farmer spending many years with the Brick Layers Union and serving on the Branch County Fair Board for over 20 years. Ross was also a member of Lockwood Community Church, the Merry Mixers Square Dancing Club, and was highly involved with the Branch County 4-H where he served as a 4-H leader. He was a master at bargaining with a keen eye for a good deal and was an avid Michigan State fan. Mr. Byers held a passion for the outdoors and nature; in his early years he enjoyed hunting and woodworking and later was able to carry on his appreciation through farming and sharing that joy with his family. Ross was influential and generous with his time. He was willing to provide a helping hand for those who needed it and always made sure that his family was taken care of and provided for.
Ross leaves behind his children Ricky Byers of Coldwater, Kimberly (Andrew) Roussey of Ft. Wayne; sister-in-laws Shirley Byers of Jackson, Ruth McBride of Coldwater; brother-in-law Roger Sanford of FL; his grandchildren Amanda Roussey, Alison (Cole) Jaeger and his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and his great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife Marilyn, he was preceded in death by his parents; one son Randy Byers; his siblings Bonnie Culver, Barbara Kibbey, Richard Byers; his sister-in-law Sara Ruff and his brother-in-laws Dean Culver, Hugh Tuttle, and Jerry McBride.
Memorial donations are suggested to Lockwood Community Church or Beginnings Care for Life Center.
