She was born January 7, 1933 to Harold C. and Buelah E. (Norris) German in Hillsdale, MI. Bert was a dedicated woman that worked at Kirsch Company in Sturgis until her retirement. She had been a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bronson where she also served on the Rosary Society. In addition to her service with the church she had also been a member of the Mother of Twins and multiple card clubs that she participated in with her friends for many years. She also coached girls’ softball when her daughters were young. She enjoyed many things like walking, bike riding, reading, mowing barefooted, doing puzzles and was known to be an excellent cook. In her later years, she really enjoyed going to the Nelson cabin in Grayling with her daughters for a weekend of cards and laughter. Bert had a strong passion for sports. She followed the Detroit Tigers and Notre Dame, and was the biggest fan of her children and grandchildren who, in her eyes, never made a mistake in a contest. She was known as “Grandma Bert” by many more than just her own. Her heart overflowed with the love for her family and she will be dearly missed as a mother, grandmother, and friend to many.
Bert leaves behind her children Christine (Dick) Cary, Joan (Dave) Hurley both of Bronson, Lu Ann (Doug) Nelson of Adrian, Kevin Smoker of Bronson, Pam (Dennis) Miller of LaGrange, IN, Ken (Ann) Smoker of Coldwater, Micky Smoker of Bronson; her 14 grandchildren Jennifer (Chris) Zepke, Betsy (Jeff) Feinberg, Lori (Eddie) Tabor, Kristopher (April) Hurley, Kelly (Thomas Hart) Hurley, Dana (Joel) Eisinger, Grant Nelson, Matthew (Skye) Miller, Katelyn (Brett) Yoder, Carlee (Sawyer Maddox) Smoker, Brent Smoker, Emilee Smoker, Tyler (Darcy) Smoker, Brooke (Mykal) Kline; 20 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, her many loving nieces and nephews and her special friend Wylla German.
