Obituary for Reid Steel

Reid  Steel
Reid Steel, 68 formerly of Coldwater passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 at his home in Mason while under hospice care.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Very Rev. Fr. Mark Vyverman of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Dutcher Funeral Home.

Reid was born August 18, 1949 to Merle and Mildred (Yurevich) Steel in Steubenville, OH. After receiving his Associate’s Degree from Alfred State, he began his working career at PNC Food Market in Syracuse, NY, spending about 15 years there before accepting a promotion in 1984 with Alliance Foods in Coldwater later becoming the Director of Packaging. After 25 years, he retired to spend more time with his family. On June 24, 1972, he married the love of his life, Jane Sikorski in Syracuse.

Reid was very active in the towns he resided. He was a member of the Taunton NY Volunteer Fire Department, the Knights of Columbus in NY and Coldwater, the Coldwater Optimist Club and Sunrise Rotary. Reid coached little league baseball for over 20 years. He enjoyed being outdoors, where he kept a meticulous lawn, playing golf, and lately spending time around the family pool. Reid liked watching sports on television and in person, especially attending his grandchildren’s games. He was a caring, loyal, and generous man who will be remembered for his warm smile and distinctive laugh.

Reid is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jane Steel of Mason; his children Bob (Nichole) Steel of Coldwater and Lisa (Derek) Bercaw of Mason; his sisters Deborah Steel of Camillus, NY and Kimberly (Paul) Bonewell of Ogdensburg, NY; his grandchildren Bradley Steel, Hailey Steel, Reagan Bercaw, Audree Steel, Tyler Bercaw, and Grant Bercaw; his mother-in-law Frances Sikorski; many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law Joseph Sikorski.
