Obituary for Nancy Ann Phenix
Nancy Ann Phenix, 75, of Coldwater passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, February 17, 2022. In respect to her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Lockwood Community Church in Ovid Twp. A private family burial of ashes will be held at Hillman Cemetery in Hillman, MI. The family is being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Nancy was born February 4, 1947 to Edward and Annabelle (Dinsmore) Hammond in Alpena, MI. Nancy was a graduate of Evart High School where she then pursued a career as a hairdresser. Eventually, Nancy shifted her career focus to teaching and ultimately found her passion in law enforcement. She was one of Michigan’s first female state troopers, serving from 1986 until her retirement in 2007. Nancy attended Lockwood Community Church and participated in the Noon Rotary. She was an extremely dependable woman with a generous heart that was complemented by her willingness to always help. She enjoyed gardening in her flower beds and always looked forward to a good cup of coffee paired with a nice conversation; but Nancy truly loved her life on Iyopawa Island and from time to time, a getaway trip whether it was near or far.
She will be dearly missed as a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Nancy is survived by her sons Jeff (Sheila) Phenix of Lowell, MI, Darrin (Nikki) Phenix of Greensboro, GA; her sister Lorna McLachlan of TX; her grandchildren Courtney (Justin) Stallings, Logan (Samantha) Phenix, Devin Phenix and Dylan Phenix, great-grandchildren Isaac and Addilyn Stallings and her loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Gloria, Betty, and close family friend LaDonna Tranbarger.
