Obituary for Maxine Jennelle Shorter

Maxine Jennelle Shorter, 94, of Coldwater, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Pope United Methodist Church in Springport, Michigan with Pastor Dave McClintic officiating. Visitation will take place from 12 noon until 1:00 PM prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment will follow at Pope Cemetery. The family is being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Maxine was born on April 1, 1925 to Francis Edward Roby and Esther Elizabeth (Roettger) Phelps in Hope Township, Michigan. She graduated from Vandercook High School. Maxine married Paul Linwood Shorter on June 30, 1945 in Springport, Michigan.
Maxine loved being a homemaker. She was active in the Girl Scouts Leaders Club, PTA and Band Boosters. She enjoyed sewing and dolls of which she would sew many of the clothes for. Maxine was an artist, painting with oil and acrylic were her favorites. She also enjoyed quilling and crafting but more than anything else, she loved being with her children and all of her grandchildren.
Maxine is survived by her children; Sandra (Dennis) Shaw of Big Rapids and Connie Garn of Coldwater, her grandchildren; Heather (John) Zocco, Aaron (Mindy) Garn, Caleb (Angie) Garn and Tyler (Lucy) Garn, her great grandchildren; Isaac and Noelle Zocco, Maddie and Maxwell Garn, Deacon and Josie Garn and Ruby Garn and her sisters; Bonnie Johnson of Charlotte and Patricia Phelps of Albion. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, her son Keith, her son in law Richard Garn, her sisters Elnora Wilcox and Louise Wilcox and her brother Theodore Roby.
