Obituary for Matthew James Mitchell

Matthew James Mitchell, 46, of Coldwater passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at his home in Coldwater.
In accordance to his wishes cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Matthew was born October 22, 1974 in Coldwater to Thomas and Valerie (Seitler) Mitchell. He was a life long member of the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Coldwater. Matthew was a gifted man working for many years a professional costumer working at U of M, St. Louis Opera, Metropolitan Opera, Century II Performing Arts and Crown Uptown in Wichita. He had made the costumes for the Coldwater Civil War reenactment as well as several theaters including the Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater. His talents were not only limited to upholstery, Matthew had participated in the restoration of the Blue Hat in Coldwater and the Lewis House in Ypsilanti and even made his own original jewelry. He had a true passion for the outdoors. Matt had hiked the Appalachian Trail, traveled the country, and loved to just go for walks. Matthew was a son, brother, cousin, nephew, and close friend with a very kind and generous heart that will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents Thomas and Valerie, Matthew is survived by his brother Mike (Heather) Haas of Mattawan, MI; his uncle and aunt, Richard (Becky) Seitler of Rock Springs, TX; his niece and nephews Kenzi, Christopher, and Gavin Haas; cousins René Seitler, Rick Seitler, Anne Mackie, Joseph Mitchell, Vidas Staneuicius, the Lukas families and their children, and his very close friends Debbie Paul, Phillip (Catherine) Jewell, Daryl (Judy) Messenger, Floyd (Melinda) Tucker, the Smolinski families, Brockington families and the Ghoddousi families.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Percy (LaVetta) Seitler, Bernice Gentry, Joseph Mitchell and his two aunts Mary Lukas and Anna P. Nichols.
