Obituary for Mary Alice Schomaeker

Mary Alice (Chandler) Schomaeker, 86, of Coldwater, Michigan, formerly of Ottawa, Ohio, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus while surrounded by her four daughters in her home on Sunday, February 5, 2023

Mary Alice was born February 10, 1936 to Frank and Leona (Goldi) Chandler. She graduated from Fort Jennings High School and then attended a dental assistant program in Elkhart, Indiana.
She married G. Thomas Schomaeker on September 16, 1956 in Ft. Jennings, Ohio.
Mary Alice was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was employed by Dr. Bauer, O.D., for many years in Ottawa, Ohio before her retirement. Tom and Mary Alice then moved to Coldwater, Michigan. They loved their life at home on the lake in the summers and enjoyed winters together in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida.
She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends as one of the most caring and selfless individuals you could ever meet. Mary Alice worked hard her entire life and remained fiercely independent. There was nothing she couldn’t do. She loved with her whole heart and made everyone feel welcome and accepted. Mary Alice enjoyed crossword puzzles, thrifting, refurbishing and reupholstering furniture. She had a great appreciation for the beauty of nature, especially flowers. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her such joy. From golf cart rides, turtle hunting in the paddle boat, baseball and bocce ball in the front yard, card games and water-ski lessons, she did it all. Her family is so blessed to have countless memories such as these. She truly lived each moment of her 86 years to the fullest.
Mary Alice is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Cliff and Cloris Chandler of Fort Jennings, Ohio, daughters, Lynn (Jeff) Hyman of Ottawa, Ohio, Lisa (Randy) Westrick of Ottawa, Ohio, Laura (Mike) Hermiller of Ottawa, Ohio and Leslie (Joe) Jepson of Coldwater, Michigan; her grandchildren, Ashley (Chris) Bennett, Lindsay (Brian) Bradbee, Paige (Travis) Frey, Jordan (Erica) Hermiller, Alex (Lauren) Hermiller and Joel (Haley) Jepson; her step grandchildren, Troy Hyman and Megan Hyman; 12 great grandchildren with another on the way, and her beloved and loyal pup, Kiki, whom she adopted through Putnam Pet Pals. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Ralph Pierce, and special friend and aunt, Betty Grisham.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ottawa, Ohio with Pastor Marcella Ciccotelli officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of the service. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
