Mary Agnes Pohl, 96, of Coldwater, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Grand Vista, surrounded by her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 12:00 PM at St. Charles Borromeo Church with Rev. Fr. Paul Redmond officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Mary was born September 24, 1922 to Joseph and Agnes (Wrasman) Hemker in Delphos, OH. In May of 1946, Mary met the handsomest man at the Blinking Owl Bar in Lima, OH. On July 26, 1947 she married Gilbert I. Pohl at St. John’s Catholic Church in Delphos, OH. They shared 71 wonderful years together before Gil passed away on September 12, 2018.
Mary was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, where she was a part of the Young Ladies Fidelity. She was also a faithful member of St. Charles Catholic Church for 60 years, after she and Gil moved their family to Coldwater in 1958. Mary was also a member of St. Anne’s Guild for several years and also a Bluebird/Campfire Leader for 4 years.
Prior to Mary’s marriage, she worked a Deisel Wemmer & Gilbert where they manufactured RG Gunn Cigars from 1940-47. After getting married, she became a fulltime homemaker and rarely had a free moment. She was often seen behind the sewing machine, cooking meals, or out in the garden working. Mary kept a neat and lovely home for her husband and family.
Mary cherished her entire family, her church family, neighbors, and her many trusted friends whom have passed before her. She loved reading, camping with family and playing cards. Mary also enjoyed listening to big band music, whistling, entertaining family and friends, bowling on a woman’s league and a co-ed league with her husband Gil. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Mary’s fondest memories are of her trip to Rome & Italy, trips to Conyers, GA and growing & arranging flowers.
Mary is survived by her daughters Marilyn (Eric) Posler, Lois Tell, Pat (Dennis) Babjack all of Coldwater, Marj Sturtz of Quincy, Joan (Steve) Carr of Adrian, Linda Green, Theresa (Roy) Snyder and Monica (Bob) Granger all of Coldwater, 21 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grandchild.
