Obituary

Marilyn Yvonne Otis, 83, of Coldwater, passed away Monday, December 16, 2019 at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Rev. Fr. Dan Hyman from St. Charles Church officiating. Private Interment of ashes will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends, prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home. Marilyn was born December 15, 1936 in East Algansee Twp., MI to Marlin & Flossie Mae (Smith) Gottschalk. She married the love of her life, Joseph M. Otis, on May 26, 1956 in Coldwater. In younger years, Mrs. Otis had worked for GTE as a telephone operator. She spent most of her career at the Coldwater Daily Reporter and the last few years at the Shoppers Guide, until her retirement. Marilyn was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church. She enjoyed playing in her Bridge Club, sewing and knitting. Friday night supper club with her husband and friends was also one of her favorites. Marilyn was an avid reader with an extensive library, but one of her greatest gifts was that of her artistic ability. While Marilyn had many hobbies and passions, she will always be remembered for her fierce and unwavering love for her family. Marilyn adored her family, and especially treasured the time she spent with her grand and great-grandchildren. Marilyn is survived by her husband Joseph, her daughters Michelle (Mark) Kinsey of Adrian and Jody (Thomas) Olmstead of Coldwater, her brother Jerry (Linda) Gottschalk of Lake Wales, FL, her sisters Darlene Loetz of Sturgis and Shila (John) Potts of Angola, IN, her grandchildren Amy (Shane) Brayton of Ann Arbor, Kelly (Nicholas) Dillman of Saline, Griffin Kinsey of Adrian, Bill Kinsey of Coldwater, and Jolie Kinsey of Fremont, her great-grandchildren Sophie Brayton, Rowan Brayton, Finn Dillman, Freya Dillman, and Kai Kinsey, and her beloved Schnauzers Gretchen and Heidi. She was preceded in death by her son Michael J. Otis and her brother Daryl Gottschalk. Memorials may be directed to the ProMedica Cancer Center or the Branch County Humane Society. www.dutcherfh.com.

Marilyn was such a powerhouse of energy -- it's hard to believe she's passed on. She hung on 'til her 83rd birthday and I'm glad we all got to spend so much quality time with her. Marilyn was my after school Mom. I loved her and will miss her wise-cracking sense of humor. Michelle, Joe and Jody, I ache for your and am sending California sunshine and love your way. I'll see you in the spring!
