Obituary for Julie Ann Salek

Julie Ann Salek, 88, of Bronson, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater, MI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 3, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of Assumption Church in Bronson with Rev. Fr. Dan Hyman officiating. Interment will follow the service at Matteson Cemetery in Bronson, MI. The family will receive guests for visitation Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 3:00-7:00 PM with rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson.
She was born November 12, 1934 to Joseph and Pauline (Klavinski) Leppich in Sturgis, MI. On January 21, 1956 she married Charles J. Salek in Bronson and he preceded her in death on March 12, 2009. Mrs. Salek graduated from Bronson High School in 1952 and then graduated from Nazareth Nursing College in Kalamazoo in 1955. During her nursing career, she had worked at Sturgis Hospital and various local doctors’ offices, spent 32 years working at the Community Health Center of Branch County and 11 years at Lakeland Correctional Facility before retiring in 1999. She was a member of St. Mary of Assumption Church and the Rosary Society in Bronson. She was a volunteer at the Free Health Clinic. Julie loved to sew and had made all of her children’s clothing; knitting was another hobby, making all of her grandkids Christmas stockings. She had a huge vegetable garden and enjoyed canning as well as baking. Other favorite pastimes included traveling, including two trips to Europe and Julie also enjoyed camping with her family. She was talented at many different sports including ice skating, water skiing, and especially solemn skiing. She also bowled on a league for many years and even competed at the state level. She liked doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles; but above all, Julie was totally devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who meant the world to her.
Julie is survived by her children Loraine (Chuck) Bell, Diane (Johnny Ray) Baker, Charles “Chick” (Deb) Salek all of Bronson, Kara (Charles) Hieber of Ann Arbor, Jackie (Joseph) Hensell of Battle Creek, her 18 grandchildren and her 2 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Charles, she was preceded in death by her parents and her son Kurt Salek.
