Obituary for John Clyde Towe

John C. Towe, 87, of Coldwater, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023 at the Laurels of Coldwater.

A service will be held Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Mark Case from California Community Church officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 4-7:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.

John was born May 9, 1935 in Detroit, MI to Roland and Clara (Shoen) Towe. He served in the US Army from 1955-1957, during the Korean War. John married Joyce Jonas on June 18, 1966 in Jackson, MI. She preceded him in death on June 6, 2006.

Mr. Towe had worked for many years at General Cable Corporation, Associated Truck Lines, and Consolidated Freightways, retiring in 1998. He also owned and operated Marshall’s Channel Stop from 1984-1987.

John was a life member of the Hillsdale Masons and a member of the Coldwater American Legion. John enjoyed boating, all sports and was an avid University of Michigan fan. He had a great love for farming and operated his family farm for many years.

John is survived by his daughter Leslie (Gary) Walp of Quincy; his siblings Eula Alkema of Ocala, FL, Calvin Towe of Hillsdale; his grandchildren John Hunter Walp of Coldwater, Maverick Walp of Quincy; great-grandchildren Aubree, Nash, and Josephine. In addition to John’s wife, he is preceded in death by his brothers Maxwell Towe, Hugo Towe, Gerald Towe, Arthur Towe, Robert Towe, and brother-in-law Richard Alkema.
