John J.  Lewis Jr.
John J. Lewis Jr., 96, of Coldwater, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2018 at Drew’s Place of Coldwater.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 26, 2018 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Rev. Deborah Semon-Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Girard Township. Visitation will take place on Sunday, March 25, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
John was born January 22, 1922 to John J. and Mary Helen (Gryzbolski) Lewis in Coldwater. Shortly after attending high school John was drafted in the United States Army on November 7, 1942 and was honorably discharged on November 21, 1945 attaining the rank of PFC. He was overseas in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe and was awarded the ATO Med, EAMETO MED, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He married Vera Fern Harper on April 8, 1943 in Tekonsha and sadly she preceded him in death on July 31, 2014.
Besides farming, John started in 1960 as a truck driver hauling cars for Lease- Way Trucking which became C & J Trucking when he retired on Jan. 22, 1984. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, square dancing, hunting-especially in Northern Michigan, watching country-western movies. John was a Michigan State University and Detroit Tigers fan. John’s biggest joy was being surrounded by his entire family.
John is survived by his son; James (Paula) Lewis of Coldwater, his daughters in law, Julie Lewis of Coldwater and Pat Lewis of Coldwater, his grandchildren; Sandy (Tate) Reichhart, Jason (Kathy) Lewis, David (Randi) Lewis, Dan Lewis, Bobbie Jo (Darin Wolff) Lewis, Jimmy Lewis, Joe Lewis, Jeff (Rachel) Lewis and Gordon (Whitney) Lewis, his 16 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; He is also survived by his sister in law Naoma Lewis of Ann Arbor and by 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons- John Jay Lewis III and Jerald “Jerry” Lewis, his granddaughter- Melanie Lewis,
