Obituary for John D. Callahan

John D.  Callahan
John Dean Callahan, 58 of Jackson passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 12, 2018 at Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, Friday, February 16 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. Cremation will take place following the visitation and a private burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date.

John was born March 6, 1959 to Hugh and Marlee (Johnson) Callahan in Coldwater. After graduation from Coldwater High School in 1977 he served 3 years in the US Army as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. Upon return from the service, he began his 25 plus year career in supply management with the VA Hospital where he was still employed.

John was an avid golfer, playing whenever possible with his group of golf buddies. He also enjoyed having late-night bonfires, spending time with family and friends discussing a variety of topics. John stayed in touch with a group of high school friends, getting together to play cards. He also liked to visit the casino and watch football on television. John will be remembered as a helpful and caring brother and friend.

John is survived by his siblings David (Anna) Callahan of Coldwater, Terry (Roseann) Callahan of Bronson, Vicki (Mike) Newberry of Ringgold, GA, Kristy Pfost of Coldwater, Robert Callahan of Urbana, OH, Peggy (Bobby) Heath of Coldwater, and Mary (William) Porter of Coldwater; 14 nieces & nephews; and his golf buddies. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; several aunts, uncles, 1 niece and 1 nephew.
