Obituary for John O. Barnes
John O. Barnes, 87, of Troy, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022 at Troy Beaumont Hospital.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 1:00PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. Visitation will be held, prior to the service, beginning at 11:00AM at Dutcher Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sorter Cemetery in Ovid Township.
John was born October 3, 1934 in Ovid Township to Melvin & Ruth (Bussing) Barnes. He served in the US Army and earned his degree in civil engineering from Michigan State University in 1956. John married Gail E. Gibson on August 28, 1966 in Pontiac, MI.
Mr. Barnes worked for the Michigan Department of Transportation for 9 years and then owned and operated Barnes Surveying and Engineering for 5 years. He then dedicated 22 years to the Macomb County Road Commission from which he retired in 1995.
John was a very active member of the Faith Baptist Church in Warren. He enjoyed the outdoors; yardwork, walking and gardening.
John is survived by his wife Gail, his children Dawn (Billy) Harris of Clinton Twp., David (Sarah) Barnes of Oak Park; his siblings Max (Norine) Barnes of Sturgis, Joy Ward of Bronson; his grandchildren Jennifer (Jessie) Marrow, Alyssa Harris, Hannah Barnes, Sam Barnes, Joseph Barnes and great grandson Jaxon Marrow. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters Roger Barnes, Richard Barnes, Donald Barnes, Jeanette Newberry, Joan Stout and Charles Barnes.
