Obituary for Jean Biringer

Jean Biringer, 93, formerly of Coldwater, died Wednesday, August 7, 2019 in Marietta, Georgia.

A memorial service will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church in Coldwater with Rev. Deborah Semon-Scott officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. A private burial has taken place at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Jean was born October 22, 1925 in Oberlin, Ohio, the daughter of Ira L. and Ethel M. (Slack) Porter. She attended Oberlin High School and received her BA degree in English Literature from Oberlin College in 1947. While working in the English Department at the University of Michigan, she met her husband Richard (Dick) Biringer, who was studying law. They moved to Coldwater in 1949, where Jean stayed active in many civic organizations.

Jean was an avid gardener and instrumental in initiating the beautification efforts for the Downtown Business Association. She was on the founding board of the Wing House and served on the library board. She was a member of the Michigan Button Society and often presented programs on button collecting. She was a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Biringer is survived by her children Kent (Betty) Biringer of Albuquerque, NM, Robert (Margo) Biringer of Roswell, GA, and Ann (Eberhard) Voit of Mableton, GA; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dick; sister Elizabeth; and brother Robert.
