On August 19, 1939 James was born in Pitman, PA to Herman Lee and Mildred (Wetzel) Snyder. In 1957 Jim graduated from Dauphin High School, Elizabethville, PA; he began his life’s work for Cooper’s Bakery in Lykens, PA. Through the years Jim experienced several employment opportunities and after 27 years he retired as a transport driver from Conagra in September of 2001.
On June 21, 1958, Jim married his sweetheart, Joan (Rothermel) Snyder. Being a compassionate and gentle man Jim taught his two sons how to love and cherish their wives; honor their creator and keeper of their souls; how to give their employers 100%; follow the golden rule of when dealing with others; how to live off the land; and how to enjoy the companionship of humanity.
When Jim needed to unwind the kinks of life Jim went fishing or baked cookies and gooey, very sticky cinnamon rolls, went hunting, worked in his yard and garden, or went traveling. He served as the kitchen host at Lockwood Community Church for many years. Jim liked to travel and in 1966 moved his family to Michigan. Together they traveled to Spain, Israel, Canada and many beautiful sites in good old USA.
Jim is survived by his wife, Joan; his two sons, Glenn and Julie (Strang) Snyder; Andrew and Angela (Petty) Snyder; one sister, Ruby and Larry Drinkwater; his grandchildren, Phillip and Mary (Reed) Snyder, Sarah and Eric Roth, Kyle and Brianna (Mahathy) Snyder and seven great grandchildren; Maxwell and Paige Snyder; Julianna, Alexia, and Emalyn Roth and Tanner and Asher Snyder; Two brother-in-law’s Bryant and Linda Rothermel and Steve and Janet Rothermel; a sister-in-law Lucille Rothermel and many nieces and nephews.
