Obituary for Ivan G. Boynton

Ivan G. Boynton, 81, of Coldwater, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.

The funeral service will be held Friday, March 17, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Trent Hammond from Crossroads Bible Church in Sherwood officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Union City. Visitation will be held, prior to the service, on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 10-12:00 PM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.

Ivan was born November 27, 1941 in Battle Creek, MI to Richard & Evelyn (Brandt) Boynton. He graduated from Union City High School in 1959 and then from Ferris State University.

In 1961, Ivan married Ann Marie Swanson and together they had two children Lonna and Neil. Ivan and Ann were later divorced. In 1969, Ivan married Laurel Neas and their son, Chad was born. This marriage ended in divorce. Then along came Jan. On February 14, 1982, Ivan married his soul mate, Janice Sue (Harper) Frost. Jan’s two daughters Cynthia and Pamela became his own.

Mr. Boynton worked for Kellogg Sales Co. in Battle Creek for 15 years and then for 4 years at Alliance Associates in Coldwater. In 1983, along with his wife, they opened Boynton’s Travel and Tours in Union City, which they operated for 19 years until their retirement in April, 2002.

Ivan and Jan had a great love of traveling and enjoyed 80 cruises together. Ivan was an avid Euchre player and fan of the Detroit Tigers, Pistons and Lions. He loved listening and dancing to 50’s and 60’s music and took great pride in all of his grandchildren. He especially loved watching them play sports.

Ivan is survived by his wife Jan; his children Neil Boynton of Battle Creek, Chad (Tonya) Boynton of Pendleton, IN, Cindy (Tom) Watson of Union City, Pam (Beth Trendt) Frost of Bradenton, FL; his grandchildren Shannon (Joe) Hargrave, Kevin Willbur, Adam (Matt Polak) Watson, Alex (Elizabeth Hiither)Watson, Aaron (Regine)Watson, Ashley (Cory Shaver) Watson, Braelyn (Kate) Boynton, Brielle (Kaid Hutchinson) Boynton, Brandy Dieppa, J.D. (Erin) Dieppa; and many great grandchildren. Ivan was preceded in death by his daughter Lonna Boynton.
