Obituary for Helen L. Rubley

Helen Lucille Rubley was born in Bronson, MI on September 19, 1927 to George and Katherine (Gruntkowski) Kosmerick. She passed away on March 12, 2023 at the age of 95 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater, MI. She will be greatly missed by friends and her large family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 1:30 PM at St. Mary of Assumption Church in Bronson with Rev. Fr. Dan Hyman officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2023 from 4-7:00 PM, with the Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM, at Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson.

Helen married Reynolds Diffenbaugh on August 18, 1945. After Reynolds’ passing in 1971, she married Robert Rubley on August 23, 1972. He passed away in 1988.

Helen was blessed with 3 daughters: Karen Hargreave of Quincy, Joan Fisher of Bronson, and Dorothy Kelley of Cadillac. She lost one son, John from stillbirth in 1951.

Helen lived in Bronson all her life. She worked as a waitress, and later at Brown’s Dime Store and Fisher’s Drugs in Bronson. She served several years on the Bronson City Election Board and the Bronson Food Pantry. Helen was a member of St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson and served on the Rosary Society. In her early years, she was an avid bowler on the Tuesday night Maple Buster League in Bronson. She was a member of the Bronson VFW Auxiliary, the Bronson American Legion and volunteered several years for the Red Cross Blood Bank. Until her recent illness, Helen had interests in crocheting, crosswords, reading, visiting casinos and following the Detroit Tigers baseball team.

Helen is survived by her 3 daughters and grandchildren Kathy Hyska of Bronson, Bryan Sherman, Mark Sherman of Chicago, Lisa (Cody) Cripe of Sturgis, Joseph (Marissa) Leny of Bronson, and Jennifer Kelley of Cadillac. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren Christopher (Katie) Hyska, and Stephanie (Chad) Somerlott, and Jayden Leny of Bronson, Olivia (Cameron) Hyska, Briley, Wesson and Kimber Cripe of Sturgis and Jacob and Isaac Sieting of Cadillac; 8 great-great grandchildren Charlotte, Kailee, Isla, Ivy, Landon, Lucas, Ashton, and Waylon.

Helen was preceded in death her parents; both husbands; her special companions Ray Kubasiak and Joseph Seiler; her brothers Ivan, Paul, Joseph and Leo Kosmerick; sister Mary “Joy” Clark; her son’s in-law Brian Hargreave, Thom Brainard, Jacob Kelley and Joseph Fisher; her grandson Christopher Savage and grandson-in law Michael Hyska.
