Obituary for Harry Baker

Harry Junior Baker, 90, of Union City, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2022 at his home.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater with Pastor Frank Snyder from the Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Harry was born February 27, 1932 in Coldwater, MI to James Harrison & Ivah (Otis) Baker. He married the love of his life Violet G. Coats on July 25, 1953 in Coldwater. She preceded him in death on January 9, 2003.
Mr. Baker worked his entire career, over 39 years, for Gambles, retiring in 1989.
Harry was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Quincy and the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club. From the age of 14, he actively raised and trained pigeons, belonging to a local pigeon club. Harry was a creative thinker and very innovative, always seeing a need for something and then building it. He crafted many unique and useful items through the years, even building a pop-up camper before they were a thing. Harry was a perfectionist and a very hard worker. He hand dug a basement under a two-story house he had built himself and was diligent about budgeting expenses, so his family could take an extensive travel vacation to historical landmarks and parks across our country every year. Harry was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He greatly treasured the time he spent with his family and friends, and always remembered to send birthday cards.
Harry is survived by his daughters Kathy (John) Hemker of Coldwater, Karen (Neil) Carpenter of Quincy; his grandchildren Tyler (Barbara) Hemker, Ryan (Emily) Hemker, Alysa (Travis) Hampton, Adam (Becca) Carpenter, Jesse (Sam) Carpenter, Sara (Shane) Foley; his great grandchildren Gracin & Brittan Hemker, Ruah, Atira, Elyanah & Nissa Hemker, Gavin & Claire Hampton, Sophia & Elise Carpenter, Lincoln & baby boy Carpenter and Wilder Foley. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son Edward Baker, his brother Charles William and sisters Florence, Melvina, Betty Jean, Shirley, his infant sister Charlotte and very special sister and friend Lillian Monks.
