Obituary for Greg A. Pothoof

Greg Allan Pothoof, 56 of Coldwater passed away Monday, February 28, 2022 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital due to chronic health difficulties.

In following his wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will have a celebration of Greg’s life at a later date. The family was cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.

Greg was born February 18, 1966 to Larry and Carolyn (Skalmusky) Pothoof in Coldwater. He was a Coldwater High School class of 1984 graduate. During school he wrestled, a sport that he continued both participating and coaching well beyond graduation. Greg spent many years as a supervisor at HC Starck in Coldwater before having to take an early retirement due to health reasons.

Greg has been involved with youth wrestling at the high school, with younger students, and helping with camps. He was an avid University of Michigan fan, especially their football team as well as the Detroit Lions & Tigers. Greg also enjoyed family camping trips, going fishing, and playing softball. He will be remembered for being a strong role model for his family and inspiring to many through his coaching tenure. Greg’s true joy in life was being dedicated to his family. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Greg is survived by his parents Larry (Sandee) Pothoof of Union City and Carolyn (Neal) Dantes of Coldwater; his sons Tyler (Elisia Johnloz) Pothoof of Coldwater and Justin Pothoof of Seattle, WA; his brothers Bud Pothoof of Coldwater and Brett (Jennifer) Pothoof of Allendale; his grandchildren Cerys & Sunni Pothoof; his ex-wife Shelley Perkins; his nephews Jayden & Ryan Pothoof; his niece Brenna Pothoof; and his dog “Jet”.
