Obituary

Gary Lee Sitzes, 62 of Quincy passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at his home while surrounded by his loving family after a courageous four year battle with cancer.

A memorial service will take place at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor David Holt officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 11:00 am with social distancing being in place.

Gary was born October 4, 1957 to Glenn and Norma (Barker) Sitzes in Detroit. He was a hardworking man spending many years at Bundy Tubing until their closing and then 19 years at Dexter Axle in Fremont until having to retire due to his health. On November 30, 1996 he married Margo Biggins in Hillsdale.

Gary was a man of many interests, but mostly was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, winning many bass tournaments over the years. Gary also enjoyed playing in pool leagues and Texas Hold’em card games. His true joy in life was being with his family, especially his grandchildren. Gary will be remembered for being generous, honest, and accepting to anyone he came in contact with in his life. He will be missed by many.

Gary is survived by his wife of 23 years, Margo Sitzes of Quincy; his children Michelle (Corey) Avra of Montgomery, Janelle (John) Hempel of Vicksburg, and Danielle Bunker of Bronson; his siblings Vicki (Jack) Hargrove of Coldwater, Patty (Clark) Welch of AR, Glenn (Pam) Sitzes of IN, Glenda Lyden of MI; his sister-in-law’s Kathy Sitzes of OH, and Judy Barker of SC; his grandchildren Allison (Cody) Barth, Scott (Dani Sidebottom) Avra, Michael Kessler, Aiden Bunker, and Neala Bunker; his great grandchildren Oaklee & Wrenlee Barth; several nieces and nephews; his close friends Jim Sherwood, Tim Howard, and Chris Bunker; the American Legion Pool League gang; and his dog “Scrappy”. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers Jerry Sitzes and Tommy Barker.

Margo my heart goes out to you and your family. I am so sorry for your loss. You took excellent care of Gary. We can't make the funeral as Jims immune system is bad and he can hardly stand. But we will be with you in spirit. Hugs and prayers for healing.

Gary will be missed by everyone who knew him but certainly not nearly as much as his family will I'm sure. He always came across to me as simply a man who loved completely his family and friends, especially my sister Margo. They had a love that I envy, they were so happy together. A good man who loved to fish and hunt and spend time not only with Margo but his three daughters as well. Rest peacefully my friend, I'll see you on the other side okay? -Kelly-

Hi Gary. What a wonderful person and friend you are. We’ve many memories and laughs together. Loved the ride in your bass boat, especially when you explained the “kill switch” on my life vest!! I will think of you continually and hope to catch some of your kind spirit and fun loving ways. Most sincere thoughts to your family who will be missing you so much. Rest well sir and make new friends!
