Obituary for Gary Allen Bassage

Gary Allen Bassage, 73, of Coldwater, MI passed away following a lengthy illness on April 20, 2022 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Gary was a lifelong resident of Bronson and Coldwater. He was born on October 22, 1948 to Enola Maxine (Vaughn) and Bobby Bassage Sr. in Bronson and was a graduate of Bronson High School in 1968. When called to serve in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War, he did so valiantly from 1968-1969. He retired as Plant Supervisor after working 25 years at Lee-Ann Plastics in Burr Oak. Gary enjoyed many hobbies during his free time including hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes, shooting pool and gardening but his favorite past time was spending time with family and friends. A gathering over the 4th of July at his home was an annual event. Deeply saddened by Gary's passing and cherishing his memory are his son Jasen Allen Bassage of Coldwater, Jasen's mother Evelyn Gilchrest of North Carolina, siblings Edith Patterson of Quincy, Genie Bullard of Coldwater, Larry Bassage and Connie White of Bronson, half-sister Kim (Shawn) Montgomery of Ft. Wayne, IN., step children Wendy, Jaimie and Erin Miller, step grandson Ethan, several nieces and nephews and his faithful and loyal companion Loki.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother Enola (Maxine) Atkins, father Bobby Bassage Sr., step-father Donald C. Atkins, brother Bobby Bassage, Jr. and significant other Laurel Dixon. Gary will always be loved and missed by his family and friends. A celebration of life for Gary will take place at a later date. Per Gary's wishes, cremation has already taken place. A private burial of ashes will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. The family is being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
