Obituary for Frederick A. Schlautmann, Sr.

Frederick A. Schlautmann, Sr., 85, of Bronson, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo. A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary of Assumption Church on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 12:00 PM with Rev. Fr, Dan Hyman officiating. Cremation services have been provided by Dutcher Funeral Home. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Frederick was born June 19, 1935 in Detroit, MI to Harry & Joan (Nowakowski) Schlautmann. He served in the US Army National Guard. Fred married Janet M. Modert on June 23, 1956 in Bronson. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2019.
Mr. Schlautmann worked for the Kirsch Co. in Sturgis for over 30 years and also for Modert Excavating. He was a member of St. Mary of Assumption Church where he belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Bronson American Legion. Fred was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and fishing and loved to stay busy, fixing anything and everything.
Fred is survived by his children Douglas (Bonnie) Schlautmann, Jacqueline Fry, Cindy (Clifford) Dunham, Fred (Hope) Schlautmann, Jr., Joe (Debbie) Schlautmann, Teresa (Jim) Evans all of Bronson; sisters Annie Houghton of Bronson, Judy Garijo of Port Huron and many grand, great and great-great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Harry Schlautmann.
