Obituary for Freddie J. "Fred" Avra

Freddie “Fred” Jay Avra, 62, of Quincy passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Bronson Methodist Hospital while surrounded by his loving family.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Pine Ridge Bible Church in Algansee Township with Pastor Steve Pickell of Eastpoint Community Church officiating. Interment will follow at Fisher Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, July 6, 2020 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.

Freddie was born August 20, 1957 to Everett and Martha (Thornburg) Avra in Ludington. After graduation from high school he began a long career as an entrepreneur. Freddie was involved in many business ventures over the years in the housing, farming, and trucking industries. On July 1, 1995 he married the love of his life, “Jo” Josephine Hickerson in Algansee Township.

Freddie was very community oriented. He served on the Board of Review for Algansee Township. When not working, Fred enjoyed farming, gardening, and politics. He liked old cars, trains, antiques, and studying history. Freddie had a hard time not attending and buying things at auctions. He was well known for his fight against taxes, not just for himself but everyone paying them. Freddie was very proud of the restoration of the “old church on the curve”. Fred will be remembered for being helpful to anyone in need and his outgoing personality. His true joy in life was being with his family. Freddie will be missed by many.

Freddie is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jo Avra; his mother Martha Avra; his daughters Bobbie (Austin) Wood and Natalie (Devin Scheick) Avra all of Quincy; his siblings Keith (Holly Warner) Avra of Quincy, Judy (Bruce) Hauska of Coldwater, and Billie “Bill” (Shelley) Avra of Quincy; his grandson Cleo Jay Wood; his nieces and nephews Shawn, Corey, Amber, Matthew, Michael, Muffin, Christopher, Ryan, and Theodore; and many great nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Everett Avra; his brothers Lonnie, Ronnie, and Randy Avra; and his niece Tamera Avra.
