Faye Elizabeth Lutz, 81, of Quincy, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo from natural causes. A celebration of Faye’s life will be held at a later date. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Faye was born March 11, 1939 in Rossford, OH to Emery & Lillian (Stack) Westfall. She earned top honors and was Valedictorian of the Rossford High school class of 1957 then continued her education earning an undergraduate degree in Microbiology/Medical Technology from the University of Michigan in 1961.
Faye married John R. “Jack” Lutz on February 16, 1962 in Ann Arbor, MI. Faye and Jack enjoyed 50 years of marriage, truly a lifetime partnership of love and mutual respect.
Faye had a long career in the medical field beginning at the University of Michigan Hospital lab. She was instrumental in the opening of the Henry Simpson Institute Clinical Coagulation Laboratory. She moved to Kansas City, doing research for St. Luke’s Hospital and also for the Jewish and General Hospitals in Louisville, KY. Faye spent many years in Indiana, Michiana Community Hospital in Elkhart, serving as Lab Administrator and later opened Laboratory Technical Consultants in Elkhart and South Bend, which she operated for 5 years before her retirement in 1997.
Faye was socially active and loved to give back to her community. She helped to manage the Branch Area Food Pantry and was an avid Master Gardener, starting the Community Garden at the Career Center in 2007. Faye loved to play Bridge; hosting parties and tournaments and she enjoyed old movies.
Faye is survived by her daughters Karen (Dr. Matt) Krutsch of Coldwater, Michigan, Cindy (Marc) Tisher of Bend, Oregon, her grandchildren Adam Krutsch, Jacob Krutsch and Jack Tisher, sister-in-law Margaret Lutz, sister-in-law Carole Westfall, nieces Leslie (Ken, dec.) Swenson, Pam (Peter) Dowker, Christine (Jason) Thomas and nephew Michael (Amie) Lutz. She was preceded in death by her husband, her grandson John Matthew Krutsch, her brothers Benjamin Westfall and Emery (Janice) Westfall, and brother-in-law Thomas Lutz
