Obituary for Edwin Ross "Ed" Robey

Edwin Ross “Ed” Robey of Coldwater passed away Monday, January 9, 2023 at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital. He was 76 years old.

A memorial service will take place at 10:30am on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Shayne Looper of Lockwood Community Church officiating. Interment will follow at Lockwood Cemetery with Military Honors by Coldwater American Legion Post #52. Visitation will be on Monday, January 16 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.

Ed was born April 3, 1946 to Floyd and Margaret (Thatcher) Robey in Coldwater. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965-68 where he was stationed in Europe. Ed earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Accounting from Kellogg Community College and then worked for many years at Federal Mogul until the facility closed. Ed was the owner of E&M Laundry Repair which he ran for over 40 years. On June 12, 1971 he married the love of his life, Mary Anderson in Bronson.

Ed volunteered with Boy Scout Troop 469 for over 35 years, serving as a committee member long after his boys had finished their Scouting years. For many years, he also organized the Cubmobile Derby held on Kiwanis Hill. Ed enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He and Mary liked camping; playing cards and board games; and, in recent years, their annual February trip to Florida. Ed also spent time reading mysteries and bowling (before his knees and hips gave him too much trouble!). He will be remembered for being very generous with his time in helping others and as a hardworking, devoted family man. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Ed is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Robey of Coldwater; his sons Jeffrey (Leslie) Robey of Kalamazoo and Travis (Polly) Robey of McLean, VA; sisters Betty Neusbaum of Coldwater and Lorraine Fickle of Quincy; sister-in-law Anne (Tom) Thrasher; brother-in-law Ray (Diana) Anderson; his grandchildren Blake, Brennan, and Emmett Robey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Darlene (Melvin) Snyder, Maxine Scutt, and Mary (Allen) Hart; his brother Thomas (Claire) Robey; and his brother-in-laws Ron Neusbaum and Lee Fickle.

Memorials may be directed to Coldwater Boy Scout Troop 469 or Branch County Veterans Affairs.
