Obituary for Dr. Wen Juan Chen
Dr. Wen Juan Chen, 86 of Coldwater passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Promedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.
In following her wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal services are planned. The family was cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Dr. Wen Juan was born January 23, 1935 to January 6th, 2022 and was born in Zhejiang province of Dinghai China. She graduated from Qingdao Medical School specializing in Ophthalmology, where she met her future husband Yi Qing Zhang. Dr. Chen later did a fellowship in Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. Dr. Chen and her young daughter immigrated to Boston in 1981. She was determined to learn English and be successful so the two of them could have a bright future. Dr. Chen started her own medical practice specializing in Chinese Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine in Newton, Massachusetts. Within a few years of starting her business she was featured on the Good Morning America Show and named the #1 Acupuncturist in the greater Boston area. Dr. Chen was still working until the Covid Pandemic forced her to close her business. In December of 2021 she moved to Coldwater to be near her family.
Dr. Chen was very involved in the medical community in Boston. She was the President of the Traditional Chinese Acupuncture Association and the Treasurer of the Board of Medicine in Boston for many years. Dr. Chen was the youngest of seven children and was very family oriented. She considered her patients part of her extended family and they were a very big part of her life in Boston. In her spare time she enjoyed going ballroom dancing, playing ping pong, and visiting the ocean. Dr. Chen was a big fan of seeing the big city lights at night, especially enjoying the strip in Las Vegas. Her true joy in life was being around her family, especially when the grandchildren arrived.
Dr. Chen in survived by her daughter Dr. Yanni Chen (Dr. Richard Hartman) of Coldwater; her son Zhang Shi Xiong (Min Zhang) her brother Qi Chun Chen and her sister Wen Yu Chen; her grandchildren Brandon, Alex Hartman, and Quo Qiang Zhang; her great grandson En Yun Zhang. She was preceded in death by her parents Er Mei Chen and Rui Ni Zheng; her husband Yi Qing Zhang; and four siblings. www.dutcherfh.com
