Obituary for Daryl Hugh Abrey

Daryl Hugh Abrey, 67, of Coldwater, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2022 at his home. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 14, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Coldwater United Methodist Church. A private interment of ashes will be held at Knauss Cemetery. The family is being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Daryl was born June 2, 1955 in Coldwater to Hugh and Shirley (McNall) Abrey . He was a graduate of Coldwater High School. Daryl pursued a career in sales, where he was an exceptional salesman. He was also an active member of Kiwanis serving as president in 1990-1991. In later years he held a number of jobs, the one he most enjoyed was over the road truck driving.
Daryl was an active member and staunch supporter of AA and those friendships were very important to him. He attended the First Church of Christ and one of his greatest pleasures was helping others, often providing transportation as needed. Mr. Abrey also found his joy in playing chess, golf, and following NASCAR; but what he loved above all else was his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed as a father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many.
Daryl is survived by his son Michael (Amy) Abrey, his step-daughter Kari Gruner both of Coldwater; his sister Sharon (Tom) Shenefield of Coldwater, his grandchildren Ashlyn Abrey and Zachary (Michelle) Smurr of Coldwater; his niece Alexis Shenefield of Coldwater, and his nephews Russ (Kelly) Porter of Coldwater, Robb (Rhonda) Porter of Oklahoma City, OK, Steve (Heather) Shenefield of Grand Haven, MI and Mark (Jill) Shenefield of Springfield, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, former wives Judy Connell Clifford and Sharon Wallace Abrey, step-daughter Brandi Cross and his nephew David Shenefield.
Memorial donations are suggested to the family. www.ductherfh.com
