Obituary for Claretta P. McDonald

Claretta P. McDonald, 100, of Coldwater passed away peacefully Thursday, January 5, 2023 at the Laurels of Coldwater. A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Mark Case officiating. Interment will follow the service at Knauss Cemetery in Kinderhook Township. The family will receive guests for visitation Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 10:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home.
She was born July 5, 1922 to Roy and Mildred (Clark) Boston in Clarendon Township, MI. On January 8, 1983 Claretta married John McDonald in Quincy and he preceded her in death on October 23, 2007. Claretta was a member of the Coldwater Eagles 1907 where she not only served as the past Madam President but also was the oldest living female member. She had a talent for sewing, embroidery, and quilting all of which she truly enjoyed sharing with her friends and family. Claretta was also an accomplished gardener that always had beautiful flower gardens that she diligently cared for. She and John often visited the Gospel Barn in Hillsdale as they could to catch a show or concert but what she loved above all was her family. She will be dearly missed as a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.
Claretta leaves behind her children Ruth Ann Sunday of Coldwater, Janice Guertler of Union City, Jean (John) Laux of Deltona, FL, Pat (Dean) VanDyke of Coldwater, Pamela Maggart of Waterloo, IN, Thurlow (Bonnie) Maggart of Fremont, IN, Doug Maggart of San Tee, CA; her step-son Bruce McDonald of Quincy; 21 grandchildren, over 40 great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and her loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband John, she was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Thurlow D. Maggart, her daughter Claretta Reva Moore, her brothers Charles and Vonnie Boston, her grandsons Christopher Shepard and Alfred Guertler II, and her son-in-law Alfred Guertler.
